Wrapping up with the UCSC Brass Quintet

The group that founded the UCSC Brass Quintet a few years ago will be finally changing after the graduation of one of our trumpet players, Beni Ran. Beni took the lead in establishing the quintet and handling rehearsal schedules, and we really wish he were staying, but he’ll be up in Palo Alto for at least the next year. Luckily we had a couple of great performances to finish up the year (and his time at UCSC) with.
The first was our recital, featuring works by Bach, Adson, Maurer, Ewazen, and even one by myself. The second was part of the larger Chamber Music Concert, which was one of the most fun performances I’ve played with the group; we did the first two movements of Ewazen’s Colchester Fantasy, which as a whole is just an amazing piece of music.  Glad to be able to perform with these wonderful musicians, and I’m sure we’ll all play together in the future.
